Rumours and speculation are flying around the internet today as hype builds around the launch of the new MacBook Air which could be, as some sources suggest, as soon as tomorrow!
It is pretty well established that at some point in 2014 we’d be seeing a new MacBook so it was just a matter of when. Could we now have the answer? Well, we don’t think so. The ‘main’ rumours are for a much more in-depth upgrade involving a new look, thinner profile, new technology and generally a much more comprehensive upgrade. This will still happen but this will still be later in the year. The speculation about a release this is more subtle and mainly focusses around a new processor.
The rumours have been reported on several reputable websites and are mainly fuelled by reports that stockpiles of boxes of the new machines have been arriving at Apple stores across the country.
The new line of MacBook Air’s will most likely only see changes in the processor as far as we can tell at this point, and it will only apply to the 11 and 13 inch screen models. For example the current MacBook Air with a 13 inch screen has a 1.3GHz processor and a Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz but the new version will have a1.4GHz Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz. The weight and other dimensions are to be the same.
So, it may not be the all singing and all dancing upgrade expected later in the year but if you have been holding out for a replacement or MacBook upgrade, then give it a day or two and you’ll be able to get one with an improved processor. However, the smart money will probably be for those of you who do hang off until the big update where you may benefit from advances such as a high definition retina display, a thinner profile, and other speculative credentials such as a lower price and new Intel processors.
