One of our favorite apps is Runkeeper and it was updated today to utilize Apples M7 co-processor. The new update will allow the phone to measure any activity for a period of 15 minutes or more.
Nike+ Moves was the first app to take advantage of the co-processor which logs the information from that days activities, then when the app opens it takes that data and inputs it. This way, you don’t need the app running 24×7. However, you do need to opt in to the background activity tracking when you update the app and open it for the first time. The other thing you have to do is open the app at least once a day, preferably at the end of the day, to take the data from that day. With this update and the M7 co-processor, Runkeeper is trying to take shots at Fitbit and Jawbone by utilizing the iPhone’s new processor and not relying on a separate piece of hardware.
